Meet the Presenters:
Emily Bufkin, MD & Kylie Cullinan, MD

Dr. Bufkin is Assistant Professor in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics at UT Southwestern Medical Center.  She is a proud primary care physician who has the privilege of serving as the program director for the combined Med-Peds residency program. Her academic work focuses on improving medical education on IDD and Neurodiversity, and healthcare transition from pediatric to adult models of care.

Dr. Cullinan is an Assistant Professor of  Internal Medicine–Pediatrics at UT Southwestern where she practices primary care physician, with a focused interest in the care of adults living with childhood-onset chronic conditions. She practices at the UT Southwestern Med-Peds Clinic and the Parkland Developmental & Cognitive Clinic, where she cares for adults with complex conditions including spina bifida, neuromuscular disorders, tuberous sclerosis, and cerebral palsy. Dr. Cullinan is deeply committed to medical education and works closely with medical students and residents to advance high-quality, equitable care for individuals with disabilities.

About This Session:
The session will debunk common myths about adult healthcare and help families better understand what to expect during the transition from pediatric to adult care. We will share practical, hopefully reassuring insights about what changes in the adult model of care and what stays the same. We will also review the Down Syndrome Medical Care Guidelines checklist and discuss it can be used to support evidence-based healthcare for adults with Down syndrome.
