Area Agency on Aging Services for Adults with Down syndrome and Caregivers

This presentation will cover resources and services that adults with Down syndrome and their caregivers may be eligible for through their local Area Agency on Aging. Area Agency on Aging services may include benefits counseling, respite, information and referrals, case management, workshops, and more. The presenter will also provide information on selecting a nursing facility and can help answer questions about the STAR+PLUS Waiver.

March to Independence: The Essential Guide for Families with Down Syndrome

The DSG of Dallas presents Steve & Gwendolyn Friedman’s ‘March to Independence.’ The Friedman’s have compiled an essential reference guide for  families with Down syndrome. They are thrilled to share learnings, tips, and essential information to help you navigate the oftentimes overwhelming path toward independence for your son or daughter. Topics will include social, safety, health, financial/benefits, legal instruments, housing, and more. While special focus will be afforded to teen and adult years, they will also talk about what new parents can do to begin their independence journey. Ample time will be provided for Q&A. The is an in-person event, and dinner will be provided by the DSG.

Chaos to Calm: How to Get and Stay Organized while Caring for Kids with Down Syndrome

Have you ever asked yourself Why Should I Get Organized?, Why is Getting Organized so Hard?, How Should I Get Organized?, or How Do I Involve/Teach My Kids? Angela O’Brien, Professional Organizer and Certified Enneagram Coach at Your Space Reclaimed will answer those questions and more during this informational session. Angela will discuss the benefits of organization for you and your kids and explain the types of clutter (physical, mental, and calendar) in our lives. She will also lead attendees through the steps to getting organized and strategies for staying organized, including some of her favorite products and resources.
